I'm glad this movie is at least belatedly getting the acclaim it deserves. I should see the director's cut; the theatrical version is a lot of fun to watch as it is. I remember seeing this when I was in college after it was out on DVD. A guy in my dorm was so jazzed about it, and I've been a fan since (also, in 1999, being a teenager with a dvd player was a FLEX)

Nothing on the music bro? The Dark City overture is pretty epic, and now iconic and instantly recognized. I can't think of many movies where the soundtrack 🎉seems to really like drive the action of the story. Know what I mean?

The issue with Dark City is that it is cerebral; you need at least an IQ of 125 to decipher that The Strangers are performing a step wise regression experiment on the population of the city .....

The problem with smart sci-fi is that it still needs to be enjoyable to the morons who don't get it. Dark City is a good movie, but only if you get it. If you don't, you'll be lost. That's not like the Matrix, Star Trek, or Star Wars, where there's still the action sci-fi stuff if you're not able to understand the not-exactly-subtle left-wing politics.

It should keep the title of UHF, instead of the vidiot title. UHF television is a united states thing. Most of the low rated independent television were on the UHF channels 14-82 at the time in the 80's. VHF 2-13 is where the more prominent networks are on the US TV dial. VHF has better signal quality than UHF.

I sometimes wonder how many incredible movies we would have if "test audiences" weren't used and if idiot execs/suits didn't meddle with movies. Granted in some cases it ended up helping but hearing behind the scenes stories sometimes it seems like they real screw up a lot of potentially incredible movies.

Fun fact that didn’t make the list. Because of his working with. Victoria Jackson on UHF, “Weird Al” was able to get permission from Kurt Cobain to do Smells Like Nirvana. Nirvana were musical guests on Saturday Night Live at the time Al was traitor get permission. He was having trouble getting through to anyone to ask, so he called Victoria on the set of the show. She put Kurt on the phone and Al asked. He said, “Oh yeah. Sure! Hold on… it’s not going to be about food is it?” Al explained that it was about no one being able to understand the lyrics to the song. He laughed and gave his blessing.

I love that Kindergarten Cop and The Goonies was filmed in the same town. We took a field trip to Astoria, OR and we had one teacher who was ECSTATIC to visit filming locations. So we went to the school and the goonies house. It was a friggin great field trip.
